Olivia Ausmus (Challenge 99 ECNL) Selected to Attend 2014 ODP US National Camp

December 5, 2013

Challenge 99 ECNL Goalkeeper, Olivia Ausmus, has been selected to attend the upcoming Olympic Development Program's US National Camp held in Phoenix, Arizona from January 27-February 1, 2014. This will be Olivia's second appearance at a national team identification event as she was previously selected to attend US Club Soccer's National id2 Camp in 2012. Olivia, along with Alyssa Malonson and Chaylyn Hubbard, becomes the third member of Challenge 99 ECNL to be selected to a national event this fall, surpassing the total number of identified players from other elite club teams around Texas and the United States.

'Olivia has been with us since a very young age and we are thrilled with her development' says ECNL Director, Stuart Self. 'She has dedicated herself to becoming an elite goalkeeper and has become a leader for not only her team, but the entire club. She commands a lot of respect throughout the conference and has had a huge impact on the great results her team has achieved thus far. We are excited about her continued development over the next few years.'

Goalkeeping Director and 99 ECNL head coach, Chris Maravalli, had this to say about Olivia's national camp selection: 'I have worked closely with Olivia for several years and her improvement has been outstanding. She commands her box better than any goalkeeper in the country while also displaying a level of athleticism that has been frustrating top teams for several years. Olivia has established herself as the top goalkeeper in the Texas Conference and one of the elite goalkeepers in the country. This recognition is well earned and we hope it will only keep opening doors on her way to representing the United States at the highest levels. We are very proud of her!'

'We have had the pleasure of watching Olivia continuously develop since she was an Academy player and as with all of our players, its a pleasure watching her be recognized for her performance at an elite level. To have young three players selected for national camps, off the same team, is a testament to the positive culture of development that we have created and continue to foster each day. This is also another sign that the future of our club is bright and we could not be more excited to watch these young players develop and continue to represent our country. Olivia is now the second Challenge goalkeeper to be called into a national camp in the past year (Jamie Simmons, UNC-Greensboro) which goes to show that our goalkeeping program continues to be the most comprehensive and elite in Houston. For any young goalkeeper, Challenge is the club to be at!'
-Director of Coaching, Pat O'Toole

Olivia joins Alyssa Malonson (United States U14, 99 ECNL), Chaylyn Hubbard (United States U14, 99 ECNL), Haley Pounds (United States U18, 96 ECNL), Grace Wright (Ireland U19, 95 ECNL), and Jamie Simmons (United States U20, 94 ECNL) as the sixth Challenge player to be selected to national identification camps in the past calendar year.
